My Fall Grocery List: Top Ten Autumn Ingredients

Fall is officially here and my weekly grocery trip just took a turn for the better – here’s what’s at the top of my fall grocery list this time around.

I’m really big on seasonal shopping and cooking. I like to use what’s in season because that means it’s fresh! Especially when I can shop at farmer’s markets around town. And, come fall (hello, finally), I’m ready for all the roasted veggies, slow cooker meals, and slow-roasted meats. Even stews! I can’t stand the word, but there’s something comforting about a stew on a chilly fall evening.

So, to celebrate the official start of fall, here’s what’s at the very top of my fall grocery list this year.

My Fall Grocery List

This list features all-things autumn or fall-inspired. Many of the ingredients are available year-round, but there’s something extra special about being able to enjoy them when the weather crisps and the leaves are falling.

  • Apples (I love jonagold and honeycrisp!)
  • Butternut squash (here’s a butternut squash dip that is divine)
  • Acorn squash
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Pie crusts (not just for pie, for empanadas, too!)
  • Goat cheese
  • Coconut milk
  • Carrots
  • Dried cranberries (harvest salads!)
  • Pumpkin pie spices (OR you can make your own with cloves, ginger, nutmeg, and cinnamon)

For some reason, when it comes to fall, I buy everything with the assumption that if I don’t use it all, I’ll most likely use it in a simple curry recipe at the end of the weak – this goes for sweet potatoes, coconut milk, carrots, squash, and the like. You can also throw in spinach or kale to get your greens in.

And, if you are thinking about whipping up an easy curry at home, have some fun with it! Don’t follow a recipe to a T. Use what you’ve got on hand and taste it along the way. Most importantly, add lots of tasty spices like turmeric, ginger, cumin, and even a dash of cinnamon and cardamom. Then, top it off with a little acid – my go-to is freshly squeezed lime juice. And finally, enjoy with a side of CARBS! Naan is ideal for spooning up the last bits of curry, and it’s rare that I enjoy a bowl without at least a little piece on the side.

Now, what’s at the top of your fall grocery list? Do you really lean into it like me or does your shopping generally remain the same?
